Dennis and Phylis Laukala were married in 1974 and started our love for horses when we bought our daughter her first pony at three years old. Soon after all four of us had horses including our son Matt who is three years younger than Jenny. This became our family hobby as Jenny joined 4-H and our family joined Back Country Horsemen of Washington State and we spent every weekend on horseback. I was the leader of the Enumclaw Trailblazers 4-H gaming club for eight years and Dennis and I spent countless hours with these kids teaching proper riding skills and safety. Being members of BCHW we spent many weekends working with the Forest Service packing equipment into the wilderness, rebuilding bridges and repairing trails. In 1989 we started a construction business that has been very successful and provided us with the means to fulfill our dream of starting a kids dude ranch. In 2001 we decided that we wanted to give back to our community so we purchased some property to start a kid's non-denominational Christian dude ranch where kids could come to learn about God, riding horses, our environment and how to care for it, survival skills and Leave No Trace camping among other things. In preparation we have both become Certified Horsemanship Association instructors to maximize our skills and safety experience. We look forward to providing a life changing experience for all of the children who come to visit us.

Jenny McHargue

Jenny (our daughter) is our camp nurse and has been raised around horses all her life. She was a barrel racer in 4-H for eight years. After she graduated high school she went to school to become a nurse and has worked at Children's Hospital in Seattle, Renton Pediatrics Association, Black Diamond Elementary, and is currently working at Family Health Care in Ellensburg. Her work has been gracious enough to let her work at our dude ranch during the summer months as our camp nurse.  Jenny will be onsite from 8:00am until 4:00pm and will be on call the remainder of the day for emergencies.
